Pick me, pleaseee pick me!!

Two hours of yelling at the top of my lungs was the perfect amount of time to spend at the Grilled Cheese Invitational last Saturday. We got there at the start of the competition and got so lucky as to not have to wait in the never-ending entrance line.

Our first stop HAD to be the Grilled Cheese truck. Finally, I got to try what everyone’s been raving about. They were right to rave – it was AMAZING.

Continuing on past the trucks, past the free water giveaways, was the wide-open cemented area with a roped off section for “judges only”.  Unfortunately we weren’t considered “executive judges”, which meant we didn’t get the luxury of trying anything we wanted, whenever we wanted. That’s okay though, at least my inhaling was controlled this way.

Now, this festival wasn’t your ordinary walk past a table and ask for a sample kind of festival. You had to - HAD TO - yell to get noticed enough to be given a taste of the grease. If you didn’t yell, reach, jump up and down or woo the servers, you got nothing. Well, unless you had special connections with someone past the rope or just got lucky.

Although there were four different areas of competition, we only made it to the first two – which was plenty. Among the hundreds of sammies smothered in cheddar, American, mozzarella and beyond, some which stood out the most were stuffed with: Dodger dogs, fried chicken, Easter peeps, pop rocks, bacon, peanut butter & blueberry pie filling. I can't forget about some of the creative exteriors people used including: Krispy Kreme donuts, zucchini bread, corn bread, fried mozzarella and banana bread. Oh my, I just got full all over again.

Next year will be different. Rachel & I decided to enter our own creation for all of you to sample. The thinking process has officially begun. How will we make ours uniquely different and delicious from the rest?!

Until next year!
